The adventurers were hired by the Sheriff to investigate the report of an abandoned merchant wagon. When they arrived, they discovered dead horses and an empty wagon. They were attacked by a few thugs as they followed footprints away from the scene. Once in the bandit lair, they fought orc hounds, more thugs and their leader. The leader, a banished dwarf named Kretch, led a fierce resistance. The merchants were rescued and the loot collected. Upon their return, the Baroness requested that they next investigate strange happenings and a white spirit near the Wyrmwood.
The party, staying at the Inn of Marchcastle, was hired by the proprietor to investigate a newly discovered underground area after workers were attacked, with one killed. In the cellar, they fought rats and other creatures, clearing out a forgotten building and finding treasure, including a spellbook titled "Mag Solr...". After returning and collecting their reward, the Sheriff approached them to investigate an abandoned merchant wagon.
